2011 Fine Arts Ceramic Tile Mural
The Design:
Imagery representing all of the Fine Arts in a 4' x 8' collage.
The Colors: The design is scanned into Photoshop to make color scheme choices easier.
The Tiles:
Slabs of clay are rolled and cut into the "puzzle piece" shapes
Each piece is placed back in it's spot on the design using the numbering system
Pieces that shrink too much or break during the process are remade until all pieces fit perfectly in their place.
All the pieces are fired and then glazed according to the color design template.
When they are fired again they are placed on the backerboard in their correct spot. Any pieces that are missing or broken are remade until the entire "puzzle" is complete.
The finished mural is framed and hung in the Fine Arts hallway. After it is secured to the wall an application of grout fills in the cracks and makes the installation permanent.
